He was a passenger on the St. Jehan which sailed from La Rochelle on April 1,
1636 for New France. He was listed as a toolsmith on the passenger lis
In 1640, D'AULNAY directed him, together with Germain DOUCET dit LaVerdure and
Isaac PESSELY, to start proceedings against Charles DE LA TOUR, and on Aug 16,
1654, as a syndic for the inhabitants, he signed the act of capitulation of
Port Royal.

Left Chatellerault for Nantes during 6 to 13 March 1776 with 7 children and his
brothers, Francois and Charles, a widower.
Family left France on L'Amite 17 Aug 1785, they arrived in New Orleans 7 Nov
1785.

Albert grew up in nothern Minnesota. He was an avid fisherman all his life.
during his youth, he hunted moose. He met Jennifer Johnson in Cusson. Jenny
was working in the boarding house for a logging company and Albert worked as a
lumberjack for the same company.
They were married in Virginia City. After the two boys were born, they moved to
Idaho about 1919. When Jenny left him, he moved to San Francisco with his mother
and three children to be near where his sister, Agnes and George Tuck lived.
In his younger days he worked as a lumberjack in northern Minnesota. During
WW II he worked in the ship plants in Portland, Oregon. Later, he worked as an
auto mechanic for Yellow Cab in San Francisco. He worked on small gas
engines for the U.S. Marine Corps Supply Center in Yermo, CA, until his
retirement about 1965.
In San Francisco, the children were cared for by their grandmother. When the
children got to be to much for the grandmother, the boys were sent to a boarding
school and Marie went to live with her Aunt Agnes (Tuck) in SF, and lat
she lived her Uncle Elmer and Aunt Grace in San Marino, CA.

Apparently, Nils made a trip from Sweden to America in 1887, then went back to
Norway where he met and married Minde. Three daughters were born in Norway:
Jennifer Dorothy, Selma Marie and Ida Matilda, all under the name of NYLUND.
Nils came over to America, ahead of the family and his wife, Minde came in the
spring of 1903. Nils was working on the railroad in Tower, MN. At that time, it
was called Bear Head. Nils changed his name to Johnson. See notes under Minde.

As a young man, Albert moved to Duluth to work with his brother, Camille in
business. They sold shoes and other supplies. In Duluth, he married Margaret
Loretta Sutton, they had five children, two died. Sometime near the
beginning of 1895, he left his family and moved west. His son, Elmer is
thought to have visited him.
The 1912 Duluth city directory lists: Poirier Alb, b 201 W 5th. (Same address
as for Elmer)
After his grandson, Robert was married, his wife, Katherine moved to live with
his son in Portland. Marie (his granddaughter) stated, in an interview with
Robert James Poirier, that her father (Albert J.) went to visit his dad when he
lived in Portland.

Babin, as he was called, was stricken by a series of strokes when he was about
60. These strokes mostly affected his memory. He was unable to remember his
family or who he was. Later, he could no longer control his bodily functions.
His family remained devoted until he died. He was cared for in his home by his
wife and daughter, Pearl until he died.
From our trip in 1955, I remember him as a kind and very loving uncl
owned and operated the gas station and store across the highway from my
grandmother's house. Even though my parents were against it, he would sell us
boys firecrackers and candy. He was much loved by all of my cousins who lived
in Napoleonville.
