    Text Miriam Vera "Sue" Harnden, age 87, of Corning, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family. Sue was born on October 2, 1927 in St. Jacobs Ontario, Canada the daughter of the late Isaac M. and Vera M. (Eby) Hurst. She married Douglas Harnden on December 18, 1948 in Niagara Falls. He predeceased her in 1988.. Sue spent her years working as a homemaker and raising her three children. She was an avid reader and seamstress and loved to sing the good old hymns. She also loved to travel - traveling all over Europe, South America, Hawaii and the United States, often traveling alone or with various groups. She was a wonderful cook - making many "Suzie specials". She was known for the ability to make something out of nothing. Her family was most important to her. She instilled in them her love for cooking, traveling, bird watching, singing and sewing.. She is survived by three daughters, Deborah (Peter) Bacalles of Corning, NY, Judith (Eugene "Butch") Hoffmann of Corning, NY, Janice (Charles) Merrill of Richford, NY; grandchildren, Matthew (Danielle) Gerlach of Pine City, NY, Amber Clift-Willoughby of Denver, CO, Benjamin (Kimberly) Merrill of Newark Valley, NY, Rebecca (Charles) Hendry of Wilmington, NC; five great-grandchildren; sister, Lois (John) Mast of Lederach, PA; and two nieces and one nephew.. Sue suffered from a unique, painful condition and donated her body to science in hopes that knowledge could be gained. Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, June 6, 2015 from 2:00pm to 3:00pm at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home immediately following at 3:00pm.. In lieu of flowers, donations in Miriam's name may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee, 21 South 12th St., Akron, PA 17501.. Kind words and memories may be shared at: www.
