    8 Sep 1994 CompuServe message from Robert Quinnett to Anne Wolf:

    "Anne,

    You haven't volunteered for the job, but you're sitting in the catbird seat. Let me explain.

    I assume you've seen all the messages concerning Marie Gaudet (among other Gaudets). Since there are so many conflicting sources/opinions as to her mother, I finally laid in all out in a spreadsheet to try and make sense of it. The sources/opinions as to whether Marie Daussy or Nicolle Colson was her mother are as follows:

    Charles Leonard, based on EGA, [sic, AGE?] Vol. XX #3, pp. 83-91--Colson. The source provides a marriage date of 1628 for Jean Gaudet and Colson but no DOB for Marie Gaudet;

    Charles Leonard, based on Bergeron--Daussy. The source provides a marriage date of abt 1598 for Jean Gaudet and Daussy and gives a DOB for Marie Gaudet of 1626 which, if correct, does point toward Daussy;

    Judy Dressler, no source cited, but does provide census information for later years--Colson;

    An excerpt of the LeBlanc Family History from NB, Canada, no source cited--"1st wife," name not cited;

    Anne Wolff, no source cited--Coleson. You provided a DOB and POB for Marie Gaudet as born 1633, Port-Royal.

    I should add that the case for putting all my bets on Bergeron was weakened by his own data for the brother of Marie, Jehan/Jean. Bergeron apparently has Father Laurent Molins' census list in 1671 as showing Jehan as 18 years of age. This would dictate that Jehan was born abt 1653. However, Bergeron ELSEWHERE has him born abt 1642; this agrees with Judy's account of the Census of Port-Royal of 1671 (In Paris Archives) which shows him as age 28, thus calculating a DOB of abt 1643 (close enought for government work!).

    If your DOB and POB for Marie are correct, the weight of evidence seems to point toward Colson as Marie's mother if the Gaudet-Colson marriage indeed occurred in 1628. If you can give me a source for Marie Gaudet, born 1633, Port-Royal, I personally am ready to go with Colson as her mother and wrap this up.

    I hope I haven't put you too much on the spot.

    Bob"
