"COLESON, although a name of foreign sound, is probably French. Only one person of this name is known in Acadia: Nicole COLESON, whom the aged Jean GAUDET married the second time about 1652. Was she a widow also? It would seem so, in view of her mature age of 45, and probably of a French immigrant. Mgr. TANGUAY mentions a Nicolas COLESON, who was bailiff of the council at Quebec 1649 and again in 1650. It is assuredly this Nicolas COLESON, soldier and surgeon's aid, a native of Paris, who enlisted at LaRochelle for France, on April 5, 1644. In Paris the name is not a rare one. Nicolas COLESON, a master mason living in Parish of St-Gervais, and Blanche CAMERON, his wife, on June 29, 1648, record mutual donation, on Feb. 7, 1619.
