These census records show that Gideon was probably born 1760-1765.

      From Beers History of Union County, 1883, p. 677;

Gideon Draper, a native of Vermont, married Ruth Harris of the same State and, at an advanced age, in 1838 came with his family to Ohio and settled in Taylor Township, where he died the next year, November 26, 1839, aged seventy-eight years. His wife had died many years before in their native State.

James Draper, also a native of Vermont, settled in this township in 1838. He married Joanna Draper in his native State. He died October 28, 1860, aged seventy years; his wife died March 3, 1861, aged sixty-years.

Ira Draper, son of Gideon Draper, married Betsy Nurse, and was a resident of this township till his death, May 14, 1859, aged seventy-two years.

Page 676 states that a George Draper came to the township in 1843-44.
      ----------------------

Robert C. Green was executor of Gideon's estate.

From a letter from Elaine Chapman dated Aug. 3, 1997
I was disappointed in the documents I found. I thought I would open up the folder and everything would be there. Robert C. Green was, of course, the administer of Gideon Draper's estate. I didn't see a will. apparently he had none. The document number was CP-107 Gideon Draper 1839. Apparently Gideon's sons could not read, write or sign their names, but Robert Green seemed very able. I copied the sale bill and one on what the heirs received. There was a little packet full of tiny bits or slips of paper that each of the heirs and other persons with business had signed. They all signed their X but Robert Green. On May 4, 1844 a document mentions Parley and also Asa. It mentioned Asa as being at
      Broskpart.

Some of Robert Green's expenses were traveling to the State of New York $26.25, searching records, $2.00, lawyer's costs $1.00 and letters and postage $2.25. There was also a July 30, 1840 bill submitted to the estate for the attending physician. I assume Robert Green may have went to Oneida Co., New York.
      --------------------
These are the heirs listed by Robert C. Green for the estate of Gideon Draper

Robert C. Green, Asa Draper, Parley Draper, Ira Draper, James Draper, Gideon Draper, and Rial Draper.

It is possible that Orin Draper, b. 1792 was also a son of Gideon. He filed a lawsuit against Robert C. Green ; apparently as Robert was administrator of the estate; the children of Gideon were charged for the fees.

I believe that the Gideon Draper you are looking for is one of at least six children of Nathan Draper and Johanah Robards (Roberts). Nathan (#1299 in DIA) was b. 9 Apr 1725, marr. Johanah 18 Jan 1748 in Killingly CT and moved to Shaftsbury, VT. Their children included Nathan b. 26 Dec 1749, Ruben b. 11 May 1751, James b. 9 Jul 1758, Sarah 6 Nov 1760, Gideon b. 20 Oct 1762, and John b. 15 May 1765. Poss. also Nathaniel b. 1763.

Gideon had at least Gideon, Jr., Asa (Asaph?), Ira and James.

Nathan's lineage is well documented in Drapers in America, of which I have a copy and am willing to share whatever you need.

      -------------------
The book, Drapers in America states that Nathan Draper and his sons moved to Shaftsbury, VT. Some of the family then moved to New York. James, Jonathan, Nathan and the other brothers are found in Washington Co., NY by the 1800 census, although Gideon is still found in Shaftsbury.
      ---------------------

If the above article from the Union County History Books and the tombstone are correct, then Gideon was born in 1761. (The History Book seems to have the dates based on old cemetery records, or visa versa.) However, I find that the ages given on the early tombstones in Union Cemetery seem, like many tombstones, to be inaccurate. It may be that Gideon's children did not know his birthday, or did not realize that the stone was not accurate. It appears from Gideon's probate papers that they could not read or write.

However, from the proximity of the Nathan Draper family to Gideon, the closeness of the age difference recorded for Gideon, the lack of records in Vermont for the time period, and the fact that they appear to have traveled together, I feel that this is the pedigree for Gideon.
