      The following is an easier to read version of David's death letter:

      Canada, Burford July 6, 1854

      Dianne Harnden

      Madam

      I am sorry to inform you of your husband's death, on the 5th ? he came into my house in the evening about 5 o'clock. Being on his way from his brother's at Percy Village to the west constant where the disceased said he lived.
      Disceased said that he felt unwell and wished to stop a short time and get some feed for his colts. Disceased got still worse and I said he should have a doctor. Disceased said that he did not require a doctor expecting to recover in a short time, unto it was to late on account of the distance which I would have to send after.

      The disceased departed this life about 3 o'clock on the morning of the 6th ?.

      Disceased had got some money and a span of colts and I wish you to come or send after his property if you send you must send the power of attorney. I wish you to attend to it as soon as possible.

      When you come to Detroit then take the Great Western Rail Road to Woodstock ? Nine miles East of that place in the Township of Burford on the Brantford Road.

      Come with delay no more.

      Percy village is now known as Warkworth. It is in Percy Twp of Northumberland County.

      From Carol Teekens:

      Burford township is in Brant County. http://www.rootsweb.com/~onbrant/biosburf.htm
