Notes - Galleran Martin and his wife Isabella Côté (?The Côté spelling is used here, as it shows in the research but there is doubt about this as being her true family name. Since Côté also means "side", she simply may have been at the side of Galleran.) produced a son Abraham Martin (born about1587) in Scotland. It seems that Galleran was devoted to the cause of Mary Queen of Scots and it isn't yet settled as to whether he was a Scot living in France or a Frenchman who spent time in Scotland. Up to recently, it was thought that Galleran and Isabella were from Scotland. He was involved in a plot to free Mary from the English. The plot failed (She was eventually beheaded) and he had to flee to France.
