Marguerite Blanche Thibodeau was known as the heroine of Madawaska, because in 1797 which was known as the year of the Black Famine when colonists lost their crops two consecutive years due to floods, early frost and snow. Many went to Fredericton and St.Lawerance for the winter and those who remained behind lived on game and herbs. Marguerite worked wonders of heroism and charity. She was known as the protecter, angle of the weak, the invalid and the hungry people of the colony. She helped many people survive the harsh winters.
Most of this family settled in the St.Leonard, New Brunswick and Van Buren area.
